Try and do it yourself first!
This isn't my first website. I have actually had a presence on the web in some way shape or form since 1996, although my first efforts were fairly crude and rudimentary! I taught myself how to code in HTML and used to get frustrated when things didn't work out as I had first planned. There are two things that can happen when you get frustrated ... you either give up or you persevere and find another way or do some more research or ask the right questions ... whatever you need to do to get the results that you hoped for!
The birth of this website has been a long time coming. I put up a very basic one pager to start with while I was deciding what my next step would be, how I wanted it to look, what content I wanted to add to the site etc. etc. I'm pretty happy with where it is at at this point in time but know that there will always be modifications to be made, updates to do, new content to be added ... but now that the framework is in place it will be much easier.
I highly recommend that if you can find the time to build your website yourself then do it. It's a great learning experience and will give you a solid background on what needs to be done when it comes time to hand the responsibility of your website onto someone else. If the budget is really tight then it also makes good business sense as well. You can 'sell' advertising on your website and turn it from a 'cost centre' into a 'profit centre'. There are also lots of ways that you can promote your website for free and tweaks that you can make to make it more 'findable' on the World Wide Web. Visibility means nothing on the web ... your business needs to be FINDABLE!!!
If you have any questions about what steps you might take to get your business online, please don't hesitate to contact me (Mick@realiseyourdreams.com.au). I won't build your site for you (unless you want to pay the price!) but I can certainly head you in the right direction about how to get started.
Cheers ...
Mick
